Dog Experts, What Would You do if...

Yeah... that dog does sound concerning...
What breed was it? Saint??
I cant think of any other breed that big with long hair...
Saint, newfie, maybe a big great pyr??

Thanks everyone.

Do you folks feel that the variety of responses are due to the vagaries of trying to describe something in words? Do you feel that more posters would have been concerned about the dog if they had actually seen it, rather than just read a description?

Or do you feel that the reactions still would have been varied and would have covered a wide spectrum?

I think that the responses would be varied eitherway..., because every single person would react differently to this situation..IMO

Description based sharing can definitely get a wider response than a shared experience, but there would still very likely be some variety. A very leading or strongly worded description would also have an effect on response variety, I'm sure, ie subjective versus objective.

Given the description, and I read it over several times before commenting, I would have acted the same way as I said.

However, seeing it myself and having the opportunity to see more nuance in the dogs body language, speed, tenseness, ect. I might have well acted completely differently.

Reaction can also be a function of your mental state prior to encounter. As in what was your stress level? My response would very much be affected by having a bad or good day prior to enocunter.
