Dog food for chickens?

Can chickens have dog food?

I don't see why not. They can have cat food as a treat or emergency feed (cut with brown rice).

I wouldn't give it too routinely, because of the extra sodium in it, but it's safe on occasion. I give my ducks dog food as a treat, but it's the salmon kind. Usually catfish food is a better treat, all of the protein without the sodium.

@SmiYa0126 I wouldn't give them too much dog food, but for the record I have to [guiltily] admit that my chickens are fed cat food every day. Of course, they get their main chicken feed a lot more than the cat food, but without the cat food their egg production dramatically decreases. One thing I do make sure is that the cat food is not colored, as that seems bad for chickens.

(If I was the one buying the feed and everything else, I would not be feeding them cat food. Just also for the record.)

A little should be fine, I usually sprinkle the leftover dust from the bottom of the bin on top of the fermented feed.

It's nutrish, the bag was delivered and was open in the box, my better half doesn't want to feed it to the dogs, even though it smells fine. I didn't want to waste it.
