A friend of mine just gave me a hugh bag of dog food that she said gave her dogs bad gas and I was wondering if I could feed it to my chicken? I don't know what kind it is because it is no longer in the original bag. What so you think? I would hate to waste it, but I would hate to give my chickens some that will cause them problems worse!

I feed kibbled dog and cat food to my chickens in the winter months for added fat and protein. I do soak it in goat milk, water or broth to make it easier on them, because some of the dog food is pretty big.

Considering what is in dog food and some of the recalls made due to poisoning from melamine and salmonella to the animals and the humans handling the food, I would not feed it to the chickens.

I don't feed dog food to my dogs. You might donate it to your local animal shelter.

While I will feed dog kibble mixed with scrambled eggs as a special treat, I would not use what you have because: 1) Original packaging is gone. 2) Gave the dogs gas. Excessive flatulence indicates the food is poor quality.

I have extra dog food also, it is Nature's Domain made from turkey meal and sweet potato - I would think this is ok to give my chickens, what d'yall think?
