GSDs can also suffer from a genetic lack of a pancreatic enzyme which can display symptoms like your puppy has, so you might want to get him checked out by the vet and/or research GSD health issues that might cause these symptoms.

Does your vet know this is a continuing problem with your puppy?

Like brindle said, get your GSD checked out at the vet, and do some research. We lost our male GSD in April from stomach problems. He had an ulcer that bled into his stomach cavity. He had been on different foods throughout his life, but he did best on Nature's Variety. We fed him a combination of their raw and kibble mixed with yogurt. He had to eat small amounts throughout the day. ( he was fed 5 times a day). We rotated his kibble ( nature's variety) monthly between flavours.

I buy cheap stuff - but that said when we get our 1/2 cow every year I get all the scraps and bones and I make raw food for them out of it - so at least 4-5 times a week they get raw meat mixed in with their food or a big ole bone to chew on. Oh and I will admit my dogs are fed food scraps from the table - depends what it is usually! You can get cheap meat scraps and organs from the butcher to mix in your dogs food for the extra ummpphhh if you want.

It is a very personal choice with dogfood...that being said..
all foods are not the same, but you are only gambling with your fourlegged family member, so give it a shot.

I will not feed my dogs any manufactured food, all homemade, that way I know what goes in. I will not chance any brand food..taht all of a sudden will have a recall because of bad food..not my furkids.

I think checking with your vet might be a formost thought -however make sure he doesn't shove Science Diet down your throat just to make a profit off of it.
I could sit here & list pros vs cons all day, but here is my simple, latest example. My 19 mnth old great dane show girl Sadie - if I feed her Purina Dog Chow ~$23 bag (40 lb) will eat 12 cups a day. If I feed her Purina Pro Plan Performance ~$40 bag (37.5 lbs) will eat 5 cups a day.
The initial investment seems harder to swallow but when you break it down I am really saving money big time, plus of course there is less poop, and the ingredients are better and more filling and my dog looks great - she has to, she's a show dog.
I'm not saying go buy the same food exactly (especially not for that young of a dog) just an example of a how it can break down for you that better for that may *seem* more expensive actually breaks down to being better for everyone.
HTH!

Well, I am depressed now. I wish I could afford better food for my dogs, but I just can't. They've always done well on Purina Dog Chow. My chow-mix is 11 and in excellent health and vigor. Purina is all that I have ever fed her. Shoot, we don't even get beef ourselves, but once in a blue moon. Venison is our primary red meat. And for all the work of butchering 4 a year ourselves, I don't think I'm going to give it to the dogs.
