Dog illness/gastro issues question??

It sounds like she's on the mend, but here's a vet recommend plan for uncomplicated diarrhea:

In general for diarrhea you want to do 24 hours of GI rest, meaning no food at all, only water. This followed by a bland diet (white rice and boiled chicken is best). You can add a touch of plain canned pumpkin (tablespoon or 2) for fiber. Feed very small meals (1/4 cup for a dog her size) and frequently (4-5 times a day). Don't give things like immodium or pepto unless they are at real risk of dehydration (in which case they need to see a vet anyway). They have diarrhea for a reason, and slowing toxic bacteria in the GI can fix the diarrhea but make them truly sick or even sicker. Offer lots of water, and you can add water to the food to increase water consumption. You can give dilute pedialyte or gatorade, diluted at 4 parts water to 1 part electrolyte solution.

Slowly re-introduce kibble, mixing in a little more each day, after the diarrhea has been gone for 3 days.

PERFECT! That's the plan. I still won't let her eat much right now and did do the smaller frequent feedings today. I think just to be sure I will go back and let her tummy rest from food again for at least 12 hours from now, then begin the small feedings again to be sure whatever it was is out of her system or she might relapse and I DONT want that!!! No kibble today so that is good right? She has been getting lots of water. The rice I gave her yesterday and today was watered down with chicken stock in it, and she has her water dish too. I'm SO glad she's doing better!! Thanks for the advice!!

One question..would the kibble change have taken about 4 weeks to start making her sick, or might it be other things that made her sick? She has been gassy and I forgot to do a gradual change to the new kibble brand.

usually when a dog has an upset stomach you withhold all food for 24 hours then introduce boiled meat with no fat and mixed with boiled rice. this is very bland and helpful... they can have water all the time.. hope this helps you.. and gl with your baby
