My dog Big Behr Cocker mix, has began to be very strange...need some help before I have to do something drastic.

So tonight I was watching TV and Big behr decides to squat down and defacte on the floor...I'm right there, I had just asked maybe less than 1 hour ago if he wanted to go out.... he did not...

So I told him off and tried to get him outside, he hid under the table growling showing teeth and gnashing his teeth! Typical cocker right??

so I cleaned up the mess and continued to get him to go outside, only he will not let me get within two meters of him, more teeth, and growling.
He is now in his kennel watching me...

He has bitten my hubby before, a few times, but nothign serious, but now his behaviour seems worse?

He is 5 years old... is he going mad? what do I do?

Has he had his rabies shot.. Has he been bitten by an animal.. Or killed a wild animal recently.. Not all rabies cases foam at the mouth.. If he's had his rabies..

Then maybe he has a rotten tooth.. My dog used to growl alot and bite at me alot.. Took her to the vet and she had a bad tooth.. We removed it.. Now she acts normal..

we went to the vet for an ear infeciton on sunday...he was good as gold, and didn't shiow an weird behavour...

he is on antibiotics....and loads of stuff to put in his eaqrs, but he won't let me near him to do that...more gnashing teeth...

should I call the vet again, also on therabies thing he is due for his shot when he is off the meds, not killed any animals...

this is going to sound odd, but would alziemers (sp) or dementia (sp) do this?

Generally he is a lovely dog, but tonight....?? not the same dog, especially going in the house??? He was very house trained!?

Call the vet and don't delay. I don't even know you or your dog but it's clear something is wrong for him to be acting so out of character.

BTW, the cat in my avatar is Rudy. A few years ago he was attacked and injured by a dog (yep... one of "that kind" of dog owner who let their dog run loose). He had no visible injuries but the second I picked him up, he growled and hissed at me. He never acted that was and it was VERY out of character. It was his way of telling me that he was in severe pain.

Rudy survived and was fine, but did require emergency surgery. Don't delay.

Something is very wrong!! Dementia can cause the symptoms you mention but it comes on gradually over a period of months. Whatever is wrong with your dog it is not dementia.

I'd actually go with the pain theory. This isn't a really old dog. Aside from a rather slim chance of just bad genetics and barring head trauma or illness like rabies he should be in sound mental health. I would guess instead that he is sick with something serious or has an injury that is leading to the pooping (possibly uncontrollably) and wanting to withdraw from you. Peeing or pooping outside of an animals normal routine is a good indicator for pain or illness. Depending what meds he's on it could also make him feel ill or grouchy.
