My Black and Tan Coonhound/Rottweiler isn't allowed to chew sticks because he apparently swallows the bits. He coughs for a couple of days if he gets hold of one.
I didnt even see that you are in Idaho! Goodness...I can send you some Southwest Ga. mosquitos for free
I would love one really good freeze to help kill off some of the bugs that eat me alive every year. I am glad that it just sounds like allergiesfor the pup!
You are lucky you don't have much of an issue with heartworm. We didn't use to either, but it's a big threat here anymore. I lost one dog to it back when it first became an issue around here and they didn't routinely test for it or put dogs on the preventative for it. After I lost him I had my 150 pound St. Bernard mix tested and he tested positive too. He didn't have so much damage and they could treat him....not a cheap deal!! Now all my dogs are on it from the time they're 8 weeks old.

Uhhhh......no. I don't need any more mosquitoes than the ones we get down by the river each year. Thanks! BTW though, since getting chickens, I have a lot less bugs in general around here. Even the neighbors have expressed appreciation for the feathered friends.

When I was a kid we had to have a doberman treated for heartworms in Oklahoma. It was a bummer deal but the dog made it.

LOL well she likes eggs but doesn't seem to bother the chickens at all. She hates stray dogs though, so maybe someone's poodle is stuck in there.
We had a German Shep that had heartworms. She did ok but that treatment is ruff on dogs (and their owners!) Spook stays on heartworm preventative year-round just to be safe. A friend missed 1 treatment and her dog ended up with them.
Spook has a "cough" more like a gag. She can't wear a collar, has to wear a harness. She will gag herself when she scratches her neck. Been checked out by the vet, nothing there, just sensitive in that area which makes her hack.
As you know Aussie are sniffers, nose in the air or on the ground, maybe she sucked up a feather or something. Glad to hear she is doing better.
Ours gets a cough now and then, as long as it isn't too severe, my vet has me give him Robitussin DM (DM only) until his appointment time comes. He's a mid sized dog, and I can't ever remember the dosage, i call the vets office and they remind me.
