Dog Kennel Coops

We are looking at ideas for coops and pens. We have at least one rat around that has gotten one of our hens. Does a dog box such as the one shown raised on cinder blocks work for this? We are looking for ideas for easy chicken coops. We have 2 dogaloo dog houses we'd like to use but are afraid of another rat attacking our babies.

Thanks

Yes this does happen. We have coon hounds and hubby hunts some for other guys too. We have one here of a buddy's about once a year that you can not keep in a kennel you have to tie him to a coop. He Is a very big boy and very strong. He will nose the bottom pipe until he can get it up on his nose and then he simply picks it up and slides out from under it. So we put him kennel that was fasten into concrete. This did not work either he would simply chew his way through the fence. So you do have to use caution.
But like I said we have never had a problem and I definitely will continue to use them and have ones at the new farm because they are just to convent and to us it out weights the cons.

I would guess lowes the run about $300-400 for a 10x10 around here new, I would suggest checking your local classifieds ads first, if you have a papershop type thing they are normally in the pet section and are about half price or less.

I have loads of those. Most I picked up for around 50.00-75.00 used and some for free (take down and remove). . The older types that used heavy duty wire and steel are nearly impenetrable.

I picked up a newer type with lighter gauge wire and thin steel and after a few years it has started sagging so I'm going to have to add some type of reinforcement to it.

The RIR's are in a 10x20 that I picked up for free. Someone wanted me to take it down. I used another piece so it has a door on each side with the coop itself on the outside of the run so I can just close the door and lock them in their shanty house.

I love your sign. I wish where we lived we didn't have to worry about looks. I could have a lot more space if I didn't have to use the pretty material. I could just use osb and crappy wood.

Your coop doesn't look bad. It looks functional!
