Dog Kennel Coops

Here is mine. The 10 by 20 run is made with five, 6' tall by 10', panels, have an 8' by 10' coop on the end. Put the kennel panels on 4x4 footers to give myself a little more headroom. The only thing I don't like is the wire on top of the run, it's not as neat a job as the rest.

Hello I may be getting a dog kennel as a breeding coop for my sumatra's. I am not going to put a small chicken house in there becaues my dad has limited time to do this. It is going to have a tarp over it to provide shelter, I will have a roost, and nesting boxes. Will it be strong eough to keep the coyotes, skunks, and bears out?

Here is a picture of Cirque des Poulets, our expanded metal mesh dog kennel coop with the aviary top. We ordered it online from K9 Kennel Store out of Utah. It has canvas tops over the expanded metal roof so the biddies live happily under the big top.

After adding chicken wire over the complete top, a good solid tin cover over 1/4 of the pen, a good Sun shade or screen over the rest of the top and a three sided coop or weather deflector containing a roosting pole around 1/4 of the pen were the top is, a stand along chain link dog kennels makes a great pen for single mating (one rooster to one hen at a time) and even flock mating, say one rooster and a dozen or so hens. You can enter dog kennels easily and the doors are much stronger than those poor examples that I am able to construct.

Awesome job. I just put up a 10x20 dog kennel run for my little flock. I used two existing sides of my yard chain link. I like your idea w/ the 4x4's. I could use a little more head room, but I won't be able to raise the existing fence for it. I used plastic netting or poultry netting for the top, pulls tights and makes it look like a nice neat job. Now I need to run some hardware cloth around the lower perimeter for "digging predator control" and so the chickens can't poke their head out.

Our current plan is to take our small prefab coop, put it in a 10x10 kennel with a cover for a run and then add a little more coop space as the chickens get bigger, since the prefab will be small for 4 adult hens. I've found this thread very interesting! Do you have any recommendations for features/brands/specifications? We're not too worried about predators digging under, since the ground is very hard. Our main predators are coyote, hawks and possibly a loose dog, although our neighbors are quite good about keeping dogs yarded. Bobcats, mountain lions and bears are POSSIBLE but we've never seen any sign of them. Never seen racoons or skunks here, seems to be a bit too dry for them.

We were looking specifically at these models at TS:

Any advice?

We only did the extravagant and expensive Cirque des Poulets because of issues with one neighbor.
