Yep, there is no set amount of food to give. It all depends on the dog and the food. I use this dog food calculator to get a starting point then adjust the amount based on how my dogs look. I change the amount of feed my dogs get frequently, often daily. When they get treats or are sedentary I reduce their normal meal amount. When they are very active I increase the amount.

When Jenny came to us, she would eat nothing for 5 days and she was already thin, very thin. I kid you not, she was literally 2" across the loin before she started eating. I thought we were going to lose her.

For what it is worth, I fed my dogs Purina Formula One. Meat is the first ingredient. They liked it and their stools were always firm and virtually odor free.

I would also invest in another crate just for her anyways as in an emergency you might need to crate both her and the cat at the same time
