Dog swollen eye

Aw poor baby, it does look like a sting to me. We get hornets and wasps which makes the face swell up like that. They are so well behaved on benadryl.:D

Yeah I felt so bad for him. :( but he is barely itching now and he actually wants to play tonight! Both outside and his and my dad's nightly bedtime routine, last night he didn't do either. So he is back to himself! :D

Or almost, his eye still looks a little funny but it is much much better and mostly just the eyelid I think. It's almost completely better.

He got 2 benadryl at like 1pm and then just got 2 more a few minutes ago, at 10, just for good measure. He looks mostly better but I want to be sure he fully heals. Plus it lets him get deep sleep to help the healing process so giving it to him at bedtime is a good thing :p

We will see how he looks tomorrow and decide if he needs one more round or not.

But I'm happy with how well he's doing.

Though I'm paranoid about his eyesight lol

And yeah, I figured a sting of some sort.

And yes they really are lol it's amazing! :D

Gator is acting really strange today. He came and got me around 12:45 (which is weird because he never comes upstairs), paced around my room a bit and was scratching his eye/rubbing it on the molding by the stairs, thought he was gonna fall down the stairs lol, finally got him to stop and come downstairs and let him out (normally when he's desperate to go the bathroom he acts like that), he did have to pee but didn't poo and apparently he did go this morning (I called my dad), then he was rubbing his eye on the grass/rolling around. Then he came barrelling up to the door like he does when someone is here. I didn't let him in right away so he went and laid back down but a few minutes later he really wanted to come in so I let him. Then he was panting and pacing a lot and I went upstairs and he came up a few minutes later pacing around and panting up there. He finally laid down at the top of the stairs. Maybe it's cooler up there? Then after a while I came downstairs, he stayed up there a few more minutes but just came down. Anyway, I think now he is finally on the bed or floor and quiet?? But it's weird.

And my dad says he was pacing and acting strange this morning too.

Now, the panting could possibly be because it's really hot today and he gets himself kind of hot and flustered but I do think he's a little strange.

And clearly something is still bothering him and his eye is still a little bit swollen/weird looking, maybe it even got a little more so.

Is it possible to have a reaction to the benadryl? Though the last one was Wednesday, Thursday at the latest

Do you think eye wash might help? We have some.

I'm thinking at this point he might need to go to the vet? And I think my dad agrees but doesn't know where we'd go, it's Saturday afternoon

Oh and an update to the above, my dad just calles and sais to give him 2 benadryl just to at least calm him down some and then I think we're gonna find some eye stuff to put on it, I don't know if it's eye wash or find some medicine or both

I think he should probably still go to the vet though?

But idk if they're open and maybe this will help

Oh and he also keeps obsessively licking things. His legs after he wipes his face (though that might be normal for a dog?), the bed, etc. Lick lick lick.. has the whole timr really

He definitely sounds uncomfortable, whether it's the eye or some other reason he probably should go see a vet. I would probably wait until Monday at least though, unless he gets worse, unless you have a reasonably priced weekend vet or you are really concerned about him.

Licking is usually a sign of pain or discomfort, or just being itchy. He may need to be on some pills to calm down his immune response to the face swelling. Sometimes face swelling is from a tooth abscess which will cause bad pain, so you may want to try to look in his mouth. Also look for things stuck in his teeth or the roof of his mouth. I once had a puppy get her tooth hooked on her own lip which caused her to keep rubbing her face and mouth.

Thanks for all the help!!

The face itself isn't really that swollen but idk. I'll check his mouth but considering how fast it happened and how the benadryl helped at first, I really that it's some sort of sting or allergic reaction or something.

We gave him another earlier after I posted and washed his eye out with this stuff. We went with the cat one cause we figured it was more mediciney idk
