Dog Training: Anatomy of an Evaluation

Thanks for the positive comments!! I think so many people are intimidated by the idea of getting help from a trainer, so I wanted to give an over view of what the first visit might look like for you and for the trainer.

Fire -- LOL!!! Space aliens might do the trick, though I will do an eval if someone has $45 and says please. Now..you're in another state so it'll be a bit more expensive

She's been here one week, she's perfect- but so timid still- I was told up to two months and that greyhounds are super soft.

I got very used to my bull headed Lab puppy.

I just need her to relax, I got her last Tues- and this Tues she had to go back for suture removal- and everytinme she almost relaxes something else makes her nervous again.

(thunderstorm, not really storm-spooked, but just nervous)
(construction outside)
(drop-in guest fawning over her (I didn't appreciate that) "No, please- sit down to say hello she will come to you, she doesn't like trying people to hug her (I mean people trying to hug...), say could you get your kid to stop that?"
(going back to the kennel for suture removal)
(needing a bath due to stinky rolling)

Oh and they told us she was 2.5 years she actually 1.5 years... a puppy still. (ex-racer).

The most alarming behavior is wagging -until she is touched- then tucking tail more, from down and against to slightly under. The first day her tail was all the way under so she IS improving.

Really enjoyable reading and it must be very rewarding to take a situation that was heading in a very bad direction and turn it into a win for family and dog both. Thanks very much.

Thanks for posting - very interesting and well put.

A few years ago I adopted a dog that turned out to be half Catahoula Leopard Dog. Although I've had dogs all my life, I'd never had one like him! I contacted the Catahoula rescue folks and they put me in touch with a great trainer that had Catahoulas. Made a huge difference and she only came once. Your evaluation reminded me of the way this trainer approached my situation.

Baybrio -- I have trained several Catahoulas. I was always shocked to learn what that particular dog was because the Catahoula before didn't look like the one I was looking at. What I mean is none of them had any physical breed characteristics, despite them coming from breeders. Idk. I can say one thing, if they didn't look the same way they always had a very particular temperament. LOL

I know a Skype business- it would be cheaper as it can only be 1/4 of an evaluation, but 1/2 price...

Then you can work instantly all over the country.
