I hope that this is never needed but if it is... here's one way to save a dog that's fallen through the ice:
Get a folding chair and attach a long rope to it and slide it down the ice to the dog. the dog will put his front legs over the bar of the chair and you can pull him in.
I was walking by a frozen river one day when this happened and the dog was saved. Lovely to see
him come out alive
