Hey all, I know it's a chicken blog but I need help. My dog is really sick. He won't eat, and every time he drinks water, he pukes it up with in 6 min. Please, I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow but if anyone has any recommendations for me, I'm willing to hear. Please an thank you from me and nermal(dog).

Good luck with your poultry raising adventures, and I hope you find everything you need to know. Don't forget to take a look at BYC's very useful learning center (If you haven't already)! The learning center as well as the forum should answer your questions! There is always something new to learn! Glad to have you here! See you around with the flock.

Hum,
It could be a bacterial overgrowth in his digestive tract. It could be Parvo. In any case you need to keep him hydrated and keep his vitamin and nutrients up. Or he will just poop, pee and vomit all of it out. Then his metabolism won't be able to reestablish equilibrium and it could crash. That would be real bad.
Here's what you do. Go to your Tractor Supply or feed store and buy a qt. bottle of Beef Nutri-Drench. In this formula it is much cheaper to use than the Pet Nutri-Drops which Bovidr Labs makes for dogs. Not to worry, I checkd with the science techs at Bovidr Labs and they told me it could be used with the same dosage and usage instructions as Pet Nutri-Drops. I know you are worried and rightly so. You can buy a dropper or syringe ( take off the needle) marked in cc's at your feed store or TSC.

( Print and take to vet. dosages and FAQ, you want the stress dosage. )

Ok, here's why this product is valuable to your dog. When dogs get stressed and sick like this they cannot correctly uptake any helps you give them thru their digestive system. the Nutri-Drops and Nutri-Drenchs made by Bovidr Labs do not need digesting. They mainline right into the bloodstream with 50% uptake in 15 minutes and 99% uptake in 30 minutes. Electrolytes and other helps can take up to 3 hrs. to digest. We bred collies for 15 yrs. and have used these Drops and Drenchs on my collies and birds for over a decade.
It this is Parvo, you need to get to Dr. Dodd's Hemopet website.
Call her immediately, explain the situation and arrange for instructions on obtaining and using her Fresh Frozen Canine Plasma. It's a special plasma made from donated blood from hypervaccinated greyhounds. It will ease the symptoms of the Parvo. Has been used that way for years. It comes with a special instruction sheet for your vet.
If your dog has "the dog show crud". Dog Show Crud is not Parvo. Here's an explanation and treatment. http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/crud.html Print and take to vet.
the difference between Parvo and dog show crud dogs is that dog show crud dogs don't run a fever. print this page out and take it to the vet with you. It is very informative.
So you should check your dogs for three things, Parvo ( your vet will be familiar with this) , Dog Show Crud and a campylobacter infection. Print out the pages below and take to the vet.http://www.cdc.gov/nczved/divisions/dfbmd/diseases/campylobacter/

Also print out these pages from Hemopet:

the above paper is written by Dr, Dodds herself and explains how to use the Fresh Frozen Plasma to treat Parvo. Your vet will appreciate its science.

I spent 1,000's of hours studying these digestive upsets. This is good info
Best Regards and hope your dog is feeling better soon!

Welcome to BYC!

I am so sorry about your dog. I have no ideas for you other than maybe some ginger tablets. Ginger stops nausea can help to stop throwing up. I use it on the humans here in the house and even used it on a sick chicken once. 1 pill would suffice for a few hours. 3RiversChick has given you some great advice and some links to look thru. I hope the vet can get him fixed up and back to health soon.
