Dog Vs. Hardware cloth...

I am sorry for your loss first and foremost. I do not have any dog now unfortunately.
When I did however what worked for me was I always let my dog spend time with the chickens in my company when the birds first came into the yard under my supervision (I realize of course no two dogs are the same.)
After the first introduction My dog would always accompany me to the coop and if anything my dog kept other dogs and predators at bay. Benji was just a Heinz 57 of God knows what breed but I am thinking terrier mainly because of the size. Benji was about the same size and coat as the famous movie star canine that he shared the same name with.

Probably should have went with a smaller hardware cloth/wire ....squares are too big...more like small welded wire. For the run, why not try cattle panel in conjunction with that existing wire...no dog chewing or clawing through a cattle panel.

And...there's no substitute for training of the dog, really. If they aren't killing your own chickens, when they get off your property, they'll be killing someone else's. Time to do some aversion training on the dogs...it's worth the time it takes to do it if you plan on having chickens for awhile.
