Dog with Yeast Infection in Ears... HELP!!!

i use a mixture of1 part campho-phenique & 3 parts warm sweet oil, releaves itching &,kills mites

i am not sure about yeast infection but should work if it is not under the skin, can't hurt to try it.

OOh..i had a cocker..her ears were the worst! Yes, i have heard to shave the ears down AND pluck the hair inside the ears too...
When i had my cocker i used to take a hair scrunchie and put her ears up in like "ponytail"... she looked adorable and it helped to keep the ears dryer..

LOL...I cant see him with a scrunchie for more than 2 seconds without tweeking out on me! haha-pluck the inner hair-I draw the line there! ouch I know what its like to pluck eyebrows I cant imagine ear hair!!! I did shave as close to the opening of the ear as possible and hes practically bald on the outside of ear!-looks like a totally different dog!

I dont know if it works in dogs, but Yogurt helps control yeast in women. My dog loves yogurt. It must be the year for yeast. Both of my dogs have gotten it. Make sure you clean bedding, etc is what a vet told me because they can get it again or spread it to the next dog.

at least get the poor dog some medicine while you decide to do the procedure.

Any place,drug stores ,walmarts,some grocery storse sell it, look in the section you buy medical stuff like bandaids

His ears DO STINK BAD if we miss a day or 2 of cleaning. We have 3 dogs so we wash everything often to get the dog smell out. I'm interested in trying this vinegar method... is there a specific formula? I've tried letting other medicines sit in his ears for a bit before cleaning them out but he wont hold still. I tried stuffing cotton balls in his ears and wrapping an ace bandage all around his head to keep it in and that lasted oh about 7 seconds. Really good ideas so far guys, keep em coming! I'll try that yeast cream too. We've changed his food frequently, but I've never really checked the ingredients. Come to think of it I did note the dog acting like he had allergies (making that weird inward sneezing sort of choking noise) so that might be something to consider.

Eating yogurt wont help at all, and putting it in ears is really bad.

Ask the vet if you can try Otomax ear ointment or its generic. If they are really bad sometimes they will give an oral antifungal like ketoconizole. Some give prednisone to bring down swelling. If it becomes a long term problem you can try a hypoallergenic food trial (not salmon or lamb, something weird like duck or kangaroo with pea or oats ect).

Only reason for sedating is if they are so painfull they cant be cleaned. Seems overboard for a first time visit.

must be that time of year,,I have a GSD with it...I am treating with a mixture of ear cleaner,baytril and dex..ask me in a couple weeks if it works..

I know poodle and cocker people who take clamps and forceps and tweezers to get all the hair out of the ear canals. Helps keep the ears a lot cleaner and healthier.

A lot of times ear infections are caused by inhalant allergies - more so than than food allergies. You can get all kinds of stuff over the internet from vet catalogs - like otocleanse and, my favorite, Epi-Otic Advanced (.2% salicylic acid). Mometamax are ear drops that have antibiotic, steroid and fugicide all in one swell foop and is great stuff.

Maggie, our youngest, has seasonal inhalant allergy ear infections.

I have also used camphophenique, but prefer the other stuff.

1 part raw apple cider vinegar to 3 parts water for the ears. Also a couple tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in the food.
Agree totally with the other poster; feed the dog a meat (grain free) diet. There are lots of recipes online. The only grain allowed should be oatmeal perhaps.
