will a black mouth cur(dog) be a good chicken gardian?

I have heard of this breed but know nothing about them. If they are a hunting breed then teaching them to be guardians or protectors could be really tough.

Mine was ... once I trained him.
There's not a dog ever born who took it's first look at a chicken and thought "I must defend and protect it!" instead of "Self-tossing squeaky toy! Cool!!"

But I found my cur fairly easy to teach that the birds are mine and therefore sacred.
