dogs and ducks

I've got 2 border collies and had a sweet Anatolian shepherd with my ducklings.

My huge Anatolian Honeybear was so good with the babies from the day they were hatched. The biggest worry I had with her was that she would accidentally step on them. I could put her right in the run with all the ducks and she'd "guard" them all day. Sadly she is no longer with us.

My male Border collie is fine with all the ducks, large and small but he couldn't care less about messing with them.

The young female border collie however is a different story. She guards them like they are her puppies. Her herding instinct is incredible but can be very overwhelming. She "wants" them all together in a bunch at all times and as long as they are like that she will lay down next to them quietly. She won't hurt them but I think she'd drive them nuts if I left her with them all day long.

I guess this comes down to what the others have said also and that is every dog is different!

two Rhodesian ridgebacks.

I love ridgebacks. Beautiful dogs!

The trick is to introduce early while the ducks are small. Letting them sniff while holding the ducks goes a long way. If they try to make a snack, a quick pop on the nose sets them straight pretty quickly. Eventually the ducks will get big enough to scare of the cocker spaniel and the golden will be pretty indifferent towards the ducks.

My boxer/rotty mix has been surprisingly good with them. He went after a chicken once, but it had it coming. It got excited by another chicken and took off trying to fly and ended up coming straight at the dog while he was laying down. No one got hurt, wish I would have gotten that on video though!

I'm getting ducklings pretty soon, i also have 2 dogs and am worried about how they might react to each other. I have a Cocker Spaniel and a Golden Retriever. the Cocker is feisty and she acts like she would eat smaller animals but is too scared (she always stocks the cat). My Golden is the sweetest and wouldn't hurt a fly but she loves to play fight and chase. Any good or bad experiences? Any funny videos?
I have a Lab and a Shar Pei. My lab you think would want to eat them, but he doesn't care. He's an old man at 14 and doesn't do much. My son found it funny to set a duckling on his head and he sat there and didn't care (picture attached). I would not trust him alone though and he doesn't have access to them. My shar pei I have watched shake with excitement as she would love to eat them. I mean full on shake, you'd think she was having a seizure standing there, mouth dripping slop. I love my dogs but I don't trust them with the ducks - they will have to get through an electric fence to taste them.

It's a very beautiful and amazing thing to see when everyone gets along together, sadly not always the case.
