Dogs and Ducks

I couldn't find a thread so I thought I'd start one! Who has dogs that comingle with their ducks?

I've got several dogs and am socializing them with the ducklings... And the dogs love to keep watch. Anyone have any tips for introductions? They still move too fast and are too small for my Frenchie and I'm afraid he could hurt them unintentionally...

I'm at a farm with an adult drake whose mate was taken by coons or something. And the owners have given me responsibility of caring for the ducklings we just got. They have 2 dogs. The Australian shepherd gets on great with the drake and and thinks he's the ducklings momma. The corgi and the drake are arch enemies. The drake constantly attacks the corgi and he's finally learning tobdefend himself. We are starting to introduce the ducklings to Tue corgi, but he's a little iffy.

Today was their first trip outside. I had a better pic but accidentally deleted it. Lol.

I would be very careful to never leave those ducklings where the dogs can have a go at them. Even the best well mannered dog can have prey drive kick in especially with tiny ducklings. A dog can kill even an adult drake the drake has no means to defend himself he hasn't teeth the Corgi does not a good thing letting the 2 go at each other. I have 5 dogs and 9 ducks they all can be together but no one can bite or snap at the other. just the rules here. Keeps everyone safe and my dogs cannot be around babies they cannot handle that kind of excitement prey drive really kicks in.

Max would just sit and cry til someone rescued him. One day he grew a pair and attacked back. He's never hurt the drake but has pulled out some tail feathers. We don't let him chase the duck, and only let him bark at him if the duck provokes him first. Which he does frequently. He's kind of a jerk that way. Lol

I am glad at least the dog doesn't try to really retaliate, But a shame nothing is done to stop the behavior of the drake. I use a long pole when training my geese to leave the dogs alone, yep to train the geese not the dogs. I put it between the dogs and geese to stop the bullying behavior the geese try with them
