Dogs and E coli & more

Ok guys so to follow up on this - everyone is doing well.

Is it safe to allow our dogs out again? We have one who loveeees her chicken poop so it will be inevitable that she will eat some.

If the chickens are doing well - are the ones that had E. coli still carrying it? Is it in their poop indefinitely?

Thank you!

Yogurt and probiotics are usually good to give after medicating, helps rebuild good gut flora in chickens just like it does us
Best thing to do is sterilize the waters, feeders, bedding coops and runs and I am not sure how to get it outta the ground but one of them more experienced people could tell you, ,I double bag the bedding and clean up materials, using a face mask and disposable gloves so they can be disposed of while doing the extra cleaning

Thanks! I’ve been giving them
plain yogurt. They love it!
I also give mine minced garlic about once a month as well as the dogs, they emit an oder we can't detect but is good deterrent for bugs plus gives their immune system a boost while keeping gut issues down

Ah I didn’t see your entire response for some reason.

Yes - I’ve cleaned everything very carefully.

The crazy thing is - our coop and run is kept meticulously clean. I have no idea how ecoli came onto our property other than the fact that our neighbors chicken hopped the fence and was in our yard one day. The next day we started seeing respiratory symptoms.

sometimes that's all it takes or a wild bird flying over that is a carrier and dropping a poop, but your doing all you can do and a great job at it

I'm glad to have read this thread since I lost a chicken last Sunday will appear to have an infected eye and swollen wattles. I took her to the state lab for necropsy and she was full of pus. They email you lab results as they come in and this is today's report. I just thought I would share it.
