I have a 7 month old golden retriver. I am getting supplies because we think she is going to be in heat soon. Do any of you have any supplies that you would use? Any answers is appreciated

Our Yellow lab went into heat about a month ago. If I was going to suggest supplies, definitly get the Amazon 3 pack of diapers, and puppy pads. I like the reusable diapers. They're cheeper than the disposable, and more econimical. Super easy to spray out with the hose, and they dry really fast. We put her in the bathroom at night, or if we had to leave her home with puppy pads. So she didn't have to wear the diaper all day.
I'd imagine an outdoor dog run would be nice if you are planning to let her go through heats for a few years, or more. We didn't get one for Ember though, just supervised her while she was out, and used the 20 ft long lead a lot. If you don't have one of those get that too. If your in an area that has a lot of stray dogs, like a city or something, I might even carry around a horse riding crop for walks. If a male dog comes after her, he will be insanely hard to get away. I carried one around with me for a bit, but we don't any/lots of strays in our area, so I stopped worrying so much about it after a week or so.

Okay i was looking at those diapers. And we dont have alot of stray dogs a male collie runs around alot but he is neutered so i dont have to worry. I have a invisible dog fence and a tie out. We will not be leaving her home alone for more than a hour at most when she is in heat. Thank you for the information though.

She will go theough 2-3 heat cycles before we spay her. We heard from the vet and from other people not to spay till over a year old.
Ya, thats a good idea. I don't think I'm going to spay Ember until she's 2 or 3. For hormonal reasons. Same idea. You have a good vet, since vets recommend a spay before the first heat. I think thats in areas with lots of strays and backyard breeders though, which would be understandable.

Our vet is about 20 min away from us. There use to be a saint bernard who lived across the street from us. He would get out every day and wasnt took care of he got sent to a new home. I dont want my girl to get hurt or get any cancera just following recommendation from a family member and the vet.
