Dogs itching - any suggestions as to why?

a dog cannot get poison ivy. While it can carry the oil on its fur and pass it to people, the dog will not experience any symptoms. Benedryl is an option for immediately relief, if the itching is really bad or if they have possibly been exposed to an unfamiliar pollen/mold/dirt but it would seem odd that all the dogs are showing the exact symptoms, at nearly the same time...that would almost certainly eliminate their diets. Winter is really dry and possibly they are just dealing with winter dry skin. I will suggest something that others may disagree with here...I give my dogs a raw egg on their food in the morning. Their coats are always shiny and oily. If you have recently bathed them that may be something else to consider, may be a different shampoo. But that is another issue in itself.

I used to give them eggs on their food, but haven't in a couple of months. One of the dogs wasn't with them at the farm, but they all sleep together. I am wondering about the dry skin too. They itch like a dog with a gazillion fleas.

From what I'v heard, dogs can't get poison ivy. Maybe chiggers? or allergies?

If it's getting really dry along with the cold, they may be getting itchy from that, too. Try some of those eggs and see what happens.

you could try give them a oatmeal shampoo . it might help them out

actually dogs CAN suffer from poisen ivy and poisen oak if the oils get past their fur...its common for dogs to get poisen ivy on their tummies due to having no fur their to protect them from the oils so crawling around in it can cause a reaction.

it also could be a reaction to flea bites, while they may not have fleas on them the fleas can still nibble and dogs sensitive to flea bites will react but it seems strange for all 4 of them to be sensitive to bites...
my money is on the poisen ivy.
