Dogs more important than Chickens?

A non-lethal solution is to capture the dog, especially if it's friendly, and deliver it to the county animal control department. In some places they will hold the animal until restitution is made by the owner to replace the cost of the animals killed. Take lots of pictures as evidence.
Some pet owners are irresponsible and thoughtless.Their neighbors typically choose the method that solves the problem the quickest.

I recently had an issue come up that got me thinking. I had a few dogs attack my chickens and I contacted the owner within my neighborhood chat.

A few people have made comments like: “a dog is my child” and “a dog is more important than your chickens”

“If you would shoot a dog, I hope you wouldn’t shoot a child”

I don’t agree that a dog is the equivalent to a child. They are animals.

Do you all believe it’s acceptable to protect your chickens against all predators? (Including someone’s dog)

The law states I can kill a dog attacking my chickens. Hopefully, more people can be aware of this issue so they can protect their own animals.

We ended up putting up an electric fence.
I would suggest to your neighbour immediately purchase Garmin tracking/shocking collar …it about 1000$ and teach his dog that those are important chickens. It beeps, vibrate and shock but importantly, it shows every 2 1/2 seconds where the dog is, so he will have enough time to peep so he will have enough time to beep and vibrate the dog back. Or he needs to get off the couch and walk to the fenceline and teach the dog not to cross it.

How many people do you think would have a $1,000 to drop on a training collar?

Not many. :lau A lot of hunters use the GPS collars but that’s cause the hunting dogs are an investment and probably worth quite a bit themselves lol for the average person, I wouldn’t expect them to drop that kind of money. Especially when there’s collars for WAY cheaper that are just as good. Theres ones for like $150-$200 that are amazing. Heck, there’s even ones for probably $30-$50 that would work fine for this purpose. Then you can just buy an Apple AirTag or something for the tracking part. $29. 🤣😭

Why hasn’t anyone thought of that!? 🤣😭
It must be accurate to show exactly, where the dog is and super fast…that’s why 2.5 seconds, also you set the parametr on your hendhold and it will alert you if he crosses it instantly. Also he can get Halo colar for 500$ what he can set the imaginary fence and it will also show him when the dog crosses. It will beep, than vibrate and than very mild shocks for 100 feet, but you can’t call him yourself like with the garmin. Your idea is half as good if you stay on the top of it, I am sure that if you get lucky ones to catch him and shock him he is not going to try for another three weeks, so you can get the cheep shocking collar and put it on his dog until he learns if he agrees to it.

Ahh okay that makes sense thanks

I would not do that to my worst enemy and for sure not to the dog. There is hundred different ways what you can do but this is not an option.
