"Eggs:

* Chickens: Each girl gives you a wonderfully fresh egg that you couldn't buy at the grocery store for love or money. You get one egg per day from each bird.
* Dogs: If you've collected any eggs from your dog, post a comment because we'd all like to know about it.
* Winner -- Chickens"

Psst! What are you talking about??? My dog lays me an egg every morning! And guess who has to scoop it up off the lawn when it's laid?

Hi Folks:

Thanks for the great comments. Actually, I have 2 Labrador Retrievers as well. I probably should have added one other item to the list of comparisons -- medical expenses. My black lab needed surgery on her foot. The bill so far is $1,500. When was the last time you had a $1500 medical expense for your chicken. Come to think of it, when was the last time anyone in my family had a $1500 medical bill? Chickens rule.

Chickens: want treats and then they are done with me
Dogs: want my constant attnention, one treat, one walk, one ball throw....is not enough. Dogs are demanding!
my vote: chickens

Chickens: feed themelves (for the most part)
Dogs: beg constantly, act like they are starving even after a full meal, and have yet to catch any of their own food (which is a good thing that they aren't eating my chickens, but the chickens eat snakes and mice, the dogs could eat snakes and mice too!)
my vote: chickens

Chickens: are self cleaning, every night they groom themeselves clean
Dogs: create big "hair monsters" everywhere, and leave piles of sand where they lay...
my vote: chickens

Chickens: are escape artists
Dogs: MY dogs are non-escapees, even my Lab who will go out the gate if possible doesn't run off when he's out
my vote: dogs

Chickens are waaaaaaaaaaay less demanding than my dogs!!!!!!!!!

I love 'em both! I have 7 dogs that spaz-out with happiness when I get home, & about 50 chickens & turkeys that meet me at the barn lot gate & escort me back to the barn for feed time. I must admit, the dogs show MUCH more affection.I have over 100 birds & my "old lady" 7 year old turkey is the only one that really likes to be carried & cuddled, but she's busy with 9 little fuzzies hatched yesterday.
