Dogs, yards, and chickens

I've worked with many rescues and shelters over the years. My specialty is handling extra large dogs ( mostly german shepards) that have either been abused or neglected. I foster them and train them. I basically show them not all humans are bad. Once they are rehabilitated, they are rehomed.

My suggestion is to find a GP rescue possibly in your area ( or at least nearby) and have her call them. Most rescues need foster parents, and she could try being a foster parent. It's free, and it's rewarding most of the time. 3 of my own dogs came to me that way. She'll also get to know the breed better.

She has a son who is severely developmentally disabled so any dog would have to be ready for people. They've had dogs before and he is good with them so that's not an issue.

On a side note my mom fostered many dogs. Most she ended up keeping. I don't remember her having to pay any adoption fees when she kept one. So in your experience would fostering a pup be something that the rescue would agree to?

If she can find a GP rescue, and explain to them her household situation they will probably let her foster. Most places won't place a foster dog at a foster parents that will problems for the foster parent etc. They would loose too many fosters. It's something she can at least look into.
My reservation on finding a dog thru freecycle is that she couldn't possibly know what type of temperment that dog would have. Someone could possibly hand a dog to her that may have an illness, or behavior problem she might not be ready to handle. It could even put her son in danger, which isn't good. They are very big dogs.

On side note, I've lost count on how many dogs I've fostered over the years but only kept 3 LOL One is a grey hound/great dane mix who so severely abused it took almost 3 years to rehab him. At that point we knew he was better off just staying where he is. He still gets scared sometimes, and he is a BIG boy.
