War Chicken: On the same train of thought, you may value your chickens more than my dogs, but your value to ME is zero............

Some of the more reasonable responses seem to all agree that the OWNERS should be responsible. Start by going after the owners first and make them accountable. If people can't handle a dog, or any animal, then they shouldn't have them. it all comes down to not being a moron, not being lazy and having respect for the people that live around you, even if that means exercising some personal restraint with a gun, a club, your hollering, etc.

My chickens wander into my neighbors yard everyday. They poop all over the place and dig up the grass looking for food. So far, none of my chickens have been shot by my neighbors. The birds are just doing what they do, just like dogs.

Okay, and what about dogs that become aggressive? I should just stand back and watch MY pets be slaughtered by your dog? What if I don't know who's dog it is? Am I supposed to put myself in danger to grab it and look for a tag on its collar while it is mauling my chickens? And what if it slipped its collar to get loose so I get bit for no reason? There are too many variables. I am not going to watch MY pets get killed on MY property to keep the peace so an irresponsible dog owner can keep his/her dog. If it meant so much to the dog owner, it would be where it's supposed to be, not on my property killing my pets.

Criminals are only trying to feed themselves or their drug habit when they steel your stuff or murder your family, why hold it against them. their parents may not have taught them the difference in right and wrong. Who can blame them if they can't hold a job because they are hopelessly addicted to drugs and have to steel to survive.

if either a criminal, or another animal (what's the difference?) comes here, they are not welcome and i will do whatever is needed to protect the family (pets and livestock included)

I can agree with some of that. Again, you mentioned that the owner should have been responsible, which I totally agree with. If a stray dog wandered by and started to maul one of my dogs, chances are pretty good I'd shoot that dog. Certainly wouldn't feel good about it though. So I can see both sides. But still, dogs are worth more to ME than chickens. I can certainly appreciate people having opposite feelings that chickens are worth more than their dogs. I personally don't feel that way. But why all the bragging about killing stuff on here lately? Seems people are pretty quick to jump to the gun. shoot first and ask later I suppose.

Now that I do agree with. The difference is that people (should) know right from wrong and what's acceptable and what isn't. Animals don't usually have this ability.

I would not allow my chickens to wander in the neighbor's yard because I don't think they'd appreciate my birds ripping into their garden. I understand their right to grow their own food without having my chickens destroying it. Heck, most people can't stand having a cat wandering in and pooping in the garden. And I don't know anybody who enjoys stepping in dog poop, either.

People, are well, human and we want and expect certain things. I'm always amazed at the anger people feel when one of their pets gets run over by a car. They act like it was the driver's fault and all he/she was doing was driving on the road as require by law! Now if the driver drove in my yard and chased down one of my pets to run over it, I'd get angry, BUT I would not shoot the driver or the car. I'd call the cops.

Seems like being a responsible owner should go all the way around. If your birds are in my yard digging up my grass and pooping all over my stuff you better believe theres going to be trouble the same if your dog was on my property .
This all comes down to respect. A person needs to respect others as they wish to be respected back.
