We got our dog from a rather strange family situation. When my mom passed away in 2010, my step-father, who lived in Massachusetts with her, was invited down to Georgia to spend time with his brother. While he was there, my Uncle Tom took him to a dog shelter, he said my Dad needed some company. He settled on a Rottweiler/Shepherd dog named Shadow, a three year old mixed female. Little did he know that the name was so appropriate. He drove that dog back to Massachusetts in his little red truck....and that dog would never leave his side. Would ride with him shotgun in the truck to get lumber to build the crates he was selling to Fisher Electronics...and would get a ride through the Burger King for her usual, a Jr. Bacon Cheese Whopper, no condiments....my Step-Father passed away in his house in October 2013, and my wife, son and I went back for the funeral. We learned that she would not leave his side when the paramedics came to take my Dad away, and had to be locked up. Within a couple of hours of us arriving, that dog had bonded to me. It took a while, but we had her flown to Sacramento Airport over a year later, and when the crate arrived, she remembered me. Just like she did with my Dad, she is always with me. To the point that she nudges my hand while on the computer mouse. Dogs are a gift. We should always keep them in our hearts.
