D'oh! 4 more.

Very cute chicks!

And I'm glad to hear it's not just me...maybe we should rename this website "Backyardchickensanonymous" or something. Hi, my name is Kate and I have an addiction...

I'm currently trying to convince myself that there will, in fact, be more chickens born NEXT year and that I don't need to rush to the feed store on Tuesday because they're getting their final chicks of the season which will include Aracaunas (which, I'm sure are Easter Eggers). The fact that CPartist just put eggs from her amazing flock in the incubator for me does little to stop my urge to drive over there "just for a quick look."

I knew I wasn't alone!

I was telling a neighbor about the roo that will have to go. She said "we don't care, and i'm sure those neighbors won't care," like I needed someone to give me a reason to keep more chickens.

I can just imagine the chicks that I couldn't bear to part with in the near future, too! Luckily, I am completely convinced that the 3rd neighbor would complain and all of us would be down to the 2 hen rule. Ruining it for all of us will keep me from breaking that rule....I think.

I share your problem. The whole neighborhood knows me as the crazy chicken lady, and I think my kids are embarrassed by me, and my sole topic of conversation - chickens! My sisters call me Mrs. Tweedy. I couldn't be happier!

Oh no....this afternoon I was the know-it-all chicken lady at the park. I was talking about hardware cloth, and which breeds to get....it's only been 2 months, I really need to get over myself.

Okay, let's see, I started with 2 black sex-links, 2 brown leghorns, and 2 golden sex-links.

Then I got the 4 Ameraucana chicks.

Then the 2 turkeys, 2 geese, 2 EEs and 2 RIR.

Then I discovered I picked up roos for the black sex-links.

I was ignorant.

THEN I stopped at the feed store and got 2 Cornish x and 2 RIR. It was a great sale.

THEN, I got 4 cornish x (on sale) and 3 pullet black sex-links. I would've gotten only two, but the girl pointed out how tame one was after I picked out two.

I am looking at barnevelders.

I have a problem.

(But the cornish xs and at least one of the roos are going to the butcher. So are the turkeys. The leghorns may be roos too, in which case they go as well)

Yes, I have a problem.
