Strong guess that these birds are more than a year old and they are molting. previously I have gotten young birds in the spring and they just started laying shortly after equinox and then stopped laying in the fall at which point I ate em! so I didnt catch on to the molting cycle.
if anyone else wants to pipe in on this, I am all ears.
