Welcome. I'm new too and I am starting with 4. I won't be free ranging mine but will have a nice size run and hope they enjoy it. Probably won't be getting my chickens until around May still have alot to do to get ready for them. Great help on this site. Lots of good information for sure.

Hello and welcome to BYC! This is an awesome community with so many helpful people. I keep four chickens and, if I hadn't splurged on a fancy coop, the cost would definitely have been more than manageable. Good luck with your (hopeful) future flock!
