Dominance or normal puppy behavior?

His food, Jax's food. He even convinced the cats to knock their bowl down once in awhile. If it's on the floor and smells anything like food it's history.
He didn't however help himself to the hamburgers last night. That was allllll Jax.

Yes I have a few picts, need to update my picts to include the other 3 dogs! Kaine was far and above the best dog I ever had. We had to put him down on Mother's day 2 yrs ago... still hard for me when I think about him.

AMAZING! We got a Neo/Corso cross last year. He just turned 1. His name is Hu-Mongo (cause he is!)

He's bigger now, but I'm not on my computer so I can't upload them. DH is taking him to vet thursday so we will see how big he is. At 9 months, he was about 125. He is the sweetest, most low key guy. Which is great since you can't miss him when you walk in the room! He's not as smart as our rotti - smart probably isn't the best way to say it. He's not as crafty as our rotti, but he loves to please and he adores my DH wich is wonderful since we put down DH's best friend of 12 years the end of last year. Mongo has really filled the void and he is so loyal to DH. They are just amazing dogs.

Mounting can be dominance, a more submissive dog showing allegiance to a higher-ranking dog, or excitability. Regardless of the reasoning behind the behavior, this is dog pack dynamics and nothing to worry about. Dogs are very much capable of deciding amongst them selves pack rank, interference can not alter these dynamics in fact it can cause serious problems. Dog interactions are extremely complex in most cases dominance roles can switch through out a lifetime. Dog A may be leader in some respects, while dog B fills the void in other areas, which dog is dominate at any given time is likely to be unknown to humans. Let the little guy hump away, Jax needs to be the one to discourage the behavior.

Good luck!

Yep unwanted behavior that might or might not go away if ignored. I would redirect his attention for a few days as soon as you see it and if that doesn't work try a light puppy correction, verbal or push him off in a way that lets him know the mounting is not wanted. I have to disagree with the above post, in that you shouldn't step in and correct him. You are the boss and anything you don't want to allow should be addressed by you even if it doesn't seem to bother the other dog.

What a handsome boy! (Not smart? must be the neo in him! lol!) You won't find a more loyal, adoring dog.

LOL! He is very loyal AND adoring.....and by adoring I mean he thinks his almost 200 lb body should fit on your lap!!!!! But he is a giant mush. It's a good thing he looks so intimidating or he'd get picked up for sure. DH is getting him chipped this week.

Jamie- In what way is this unwanted behavior. This is basic dog behavior; a relationship being established between two dogs one of those dogs is a young puppy, new to the family. Jax is in no way threatened by this behavior. There is no reason to interfere there is no problem. You cannot (Be the boss) in regards to this inter dog relationship. People misinterpreting behavior and believing they must control every aspect of a dog’s life cause so many problems. The most important thing is for Gritsar to receive the right information.

I can answer this with experience.
nothing worse than bending over in a vulnerable position and out of the blue a 100 lb dog jumps on your back and does his thing.
you are in a position where you can not move with out hurting yourself in some aspect and if your alone your in deep trouble.
trust me I had the bruises to prove it.
I had no forwarning it would happen, he never displayed that type behavior before. it came straight out of nowhere.
Now I am sorry if thats graphic but if you tolerate it now as a puppy this can happen.
