Dominique or Cuckoo Marans?

So this is Fafnir, and she was sold to me as a Dominique. However, I'm looking at her comb and she appears to have a single comb, not a rose comb. It's not terribly important since she's a lovely chicken either way, but we've started finding little med-dark brown speckled eggs (our first eggs, I'm so excited!), and I'm trying to figure out who's laying. I've caught Fafnir parked in the corner where I keep finding eggs, but haven't caught her red-behind-ed as it where. We have a Blue Jersey Giant, a Speckled Sussex, Mystic Onyx (all 19 wks) and Fafnir and a Barnevelder (17 wks).

Also, the whole flock is on a grower feed right now, should I switch to layer even though only one is laying right now? I do have free-choice oyster shell available at all times, and I know that too much calcium without laying can cause issues.

Thanks!!

Cuckoo Marans. My Cuckoo Marans lays Welsummery eggs.

The starter feed won't hurt them and as long as you have oyster shell on the side for your layer and soon-to-bes, you can switch over to layer once all the starter is gone. Switching to layer feed now won't hurt either since everyone seems close enough to laying age.

Awesome! That's too funny, because I wanted a Marans, but they said they didn't have any so I chose from the 'Dominque' bin.

Great, thank you!
