I hate to do the versus thing. But I have been researching both breeds and got some dom eggs for free and are in the bator right now. I'm looking for a good (brown) egg producer and a semi quiet bird, which both breeds seem to be by my researching. Is there a "big" difference in the egglaying capability of the australorps vs the dominiques. I'm looking for a flock of around 15 and want close to a dozen eggs a day. And I use those expectations loosely because I know sometimes they slow down. If you own or have owned both and could help it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have had both of these fine birds, but prefer the Australorps. they just seem a little quieter and are extremely good layers. I have five hens that I get an average of 4 eggs from daily. I have even crossed my hens with a nice RIR rooster to see what they will be like. Thinking super nice layers here.

My Dom's are quiet, calm and lay like there's no tomorrow. I have 21 hens and get 20 eggs everyday. Go with the Dom's for sure.

Thanks for the info, i'm still kinda riding the fence on this one. I guess a lot of my decision making will be whether or not my eggs hatch.
