If drakes are anything like roosters, they do great in male-only flocks. Hens aren't needed to make them happy. However, if you're talking about single drakes, I agree that they might get lonely.

The OP explained that they were separating out the drakes that don't get along with others. So yes, I took it as individuals sitting in a pen.

I've been to Asian countries where dog and cat was common fare, and I was offered horse in Europe (it was actually pretty tasty!). When in Rome...

I don't judge people eating as they do. To me it matters if my food has been raised well. (Also, you try explaining to a chinese dude why you shouldn't eat dog. You'll get laughed out of most chinese places that way. They take a very different approach to food.)

Could be, but they might do what I do with my boys and separate the boys with small look but don't touch fences. Mine only need it in the Summer months. Right now they're all buddy buddy.
Edit : mine were also paired up this Summer. Runners VS. Pekins

Research has indicated that animals don't necessarily need to be able to touch each other and that being able to see and hear other animals of their species is often enough. So even a drake "sitting in a pen" is probably perfectly happy, as long as he can perform natural behaviors (swimming, digging) and is able to see and hear other ducks.

I actually have, but back to the vegan saying meat is bad and we are horrible people for raising our own meat. Please... This is backyard chickens. We are free to do whatever we want with our livestock and not be told by a vegan how horrible we are. Only God will be my judge...
