I noticed Don was limping this morning and he has a spot of dried blood on his comb. Im going to assume he got into a fight with one of the other boys. We caught him and I felt up and down the leg he is favoring and nothing feels obviously broken but he didnt like it when I got up to where his feathers start (thigh?) but he didnt peck me or squalk or anything. Tonight he seem to really be limping and sitting which I never see him do. What can I do? He's not easy to catch, took 3 of us, but I can if I have to. I just looked out the window and hes not putting any weight on it when he stands.

anything I can do for him? I found other posts about limping but no suggestion on what to do.

there is a pain reliever recipe on this forum-
in the meantime you may just want to isolate him in a somewhat confined area (so as to offer him rest)
I'll do a search for it-I know it calls for an aspirin
5 crushed 325 miligram aspirin per gallon of water
or 1 baby aspirin per cup of water

Poor fellow. Try to keep him where he can rest for a few days without much activity and without any more fights (if that's what happened) and try to avoid him jumping up or down to/from perch or anything else. When my roo gets a limp from an injury I lift him to his sleeping area before he can jump up and I bring him down before he would normally jump down in the morning.

As to pain relief. if he's otherwise pretty healthy you can give aspirin short term. The maximum dose recomended on this site is FIVE 325mg aspirins (NO SUBSTITUTES) crushed in a gallon of water. He'll drink whatever he normally drinks and get dosed that way. You can try starting with a lower dose to see if that brings relief.

Hope he feels better soon.

i can keep him penned up in the yard tomorrow but with the rain were getting from the storm Saturday he will have to go back in the coop unless I can rig something up in the garage. I will try some aspirin. Hes my favorite I hope hes ok. I have the other 2 up to go for free, just my luck I figure it that something may happen to him, thats why Im worried.

ok i know how Im going to make him a pen in the garage. should I put him near the door so he can see the others or should I leave him to be alone?

I don't know:(
Mine would be fine either way. He's feeling pretty puny.. . maybe a quiet day with diffused light in the garage will help him with the aspirin water-good anti inflammatory may just turn him around.
Don't forget the special treats of scrambled egg too.
I sure hope he is better real soon.

well i just got done with Chicken General Hospital. Dons doing ok in there but his girlfriend isnt happy. I wish I could find the card reader for my camera to post a pic. Its an old counter from my friends store she gave me and the screen top from my grow out pen on the front. Its looks great, about 1 1/2' x 4'. seems perfect size. He seemed better after resting during the night so i think a couple days will do him good. I got rid of the 2 roosters this morning to a local man who wants them for breeding. No more fighting.
