Right, I was saying out of the incubator into the brooder!?? Chick is in a brooder, or am I missing something lol
Blarg! I hate having only one chick because you don't have any comparison for behaviour or feathering speeds to take a guess at sexing before obvious sex traits come in >.< Anyhow, chick is very shy and has pin feather on wings coming in fast. Fingers crossed this means female. It's so hard to get good photos one handed lol. I tried the scruff technique, but chick was not having it (wouldn't hold still for me to get a good grab) so didn't get much from that.
Good to hear Mort is doing well. I tried hatching for the first time and had 2 incubators going with one dozen eggs in each. Sadly only one from each incubator hatched and after 3 days, only one lived. We called him/her #one since he is the first to hatched. He just turned 3 weeks old yesterday. Doing great but rather lonely. I say it's a he because he is rapidly developing tail feathers, so it may be a he. I have eight 6 months old chickens so I have to figure out how to introduce #one to the rest of the flock. Please keep us posted on the development of your impending hatch.

Thank you, I'm glad too, would've been heart broken if after all that he passed. I'm still monitoring his navel twice a day to make sure the scab is shrinking and I apply just a tiny bit of pressure to the sides to check for pus and infection, but I think we're in the clear since he's almost a week old now.Darn, I've missed so much! My notifications aren't working or something. I'm thrilled to see little Mort is doing well!
