dont know how to incubate chicken eggs… help

Sumi, thank u for the help, yes u did answer my question, heres another one for u...when settling duck eggs from shipment pointed end up in carton? Or down? Bc yoda told me to put pointed end up on my peacocks during settling

No, eggs should be set and stored pointed end down, or you risk the air cell moving and ending up in an incorrect position in the egg, which could cause problems for you later. Shipped eggs often have detached or ruptured air cells, due to rough handling during shipping so they, especially, should be left to settle and preferably be incubated upright, in egg cartons, with the bottoms of the cartons removed to ensure there is adequate air circulation round the eggs. Eggs should be placed with the fat ends up to get the air cell developing in the right place. If you incubate them like that, you tilt the eggs at a 45* angle instead of turning them, like you would normally, if they were lying on their sides.

Sumi,so I did pointed ends up so have I killed babies if any r developing aready?also I didnt cut bottoms out of cartons during settling, have I also damaged the eggs?

No, don't worry. Turn them the right way round. The air cells will slowly move upwards into the fat end of the egg. Candle them in a few days to check how they are doing. Cut the bottoms out of the cartons before you set the eggs in the incubator. Pre-incubation the air circulation is not as important, but once they are cooking you need the air flow and oxygen for the developing embryos.

Sumi,oh thank you! Glad to know I still can have a sucess hatch.WOW! So much learning in/outs of incubating....learning the wrongs in previous tries....lol

That is how a lot of us learned, myself included. Through trial and error. Best of luck with your hatch and keep me posted.

Sumi thank you,i want these peacock n mscovy duck eggs to be successful hatches bc I paid $ for them....lol will keep updates posted after candleing next week.
Fingers crossed

Ok I still am missing something on incubating eggs,,can someone help me out here?peacock eggs go on sides in incubating, but what end goes down in turners on ckn n duck eggs.I think after all the reading ive been doing my humidity has been to high to start am I right humidity at first before hatch needs to be 45%-55% on all eggs then before hatching humidity goes to 60%-65%?
Hope to get help soon....
You will need to either weigh the eggs or candle them to see if the air cells are developing in a timely manner. ALl eggs need to lose some water weight. THe actual humidity depends on several factors. I myself dry incubate. In the winter that is 25% RH, and right now it is 35%. My hatch rates have gone down, but recently immproved because I gave the eggs to the broodies.

THe eggs need to decrease in water content to allow the chick to be small and not swollen with water so it can zip.

Youneed to find the %RH that works for you. Let the egg tell you. Many diagrams are available online to guide you. Or look for Yinepu's guides-- she is a vetern hatcher of everything you can think of.
