Hi all,

We have a 3 year old plymouth barred rock hen not using her foot. It is swollen and was bruised but she has no scab anywhere on the bottom of her foot. I soaked her in epsom salt the first day and the next day it seemed better. Now, fast forward a couple days and now the top of her foot is swollen too and the bottom is worse. It should be stated that the foot is not hot to the touch and the bottom of the foot is very soft.

We've got her set up in the house in a dog kennel...I figure helping her use as little energy and lessening her stress as much as possible couldn't hurt.

Here's a pic of her from the day after the initial soak

Any oral antibiotics or pain meds we can give her? Any suggestion would be great! Thanks.

I am not sure if that is bumblefoot (staph) or not. Hopefully these links give you an idea of what to check for.

Given that it was bruised I would assume injury. She may always have a limp - some chickens who get a foot injury always limp thereafter.

Thanks for all your help! I think with all the additional bumblefoot pics, we may have ruled it out. Her swelling is very even all over. We'll just get her some good rest and TLC away from the flock. Thanks again.
