Don't know what he did but it hurts him - limping

I'm just wondering if a sling would be helpful..

geez..I feel so sorry for him..
did you say you had offered him watermelon?
they don't usually turn their noses up at up that, even when sick.
at least it would help keep him hydrated.

How's our boy today?
We're doing okay without our Miss MoneyPenny. I still miss her alot. Obelisk doesn't seem to though, but she likes to hang out and see what's going on in the house more. Last night she was asleep on the dutch door.

Aw Jill, I sure hope your girls fare alright. Starting Wednesday it's supposed to be in the 90s for another 4 days (89 Tuesday, as if that's much better!). Maybe with any luck at all, it won't be as wickedly humid. Tomorrow should be a tad cooler and rainy - I hope this helps give your girls a chance to recover a bit. Way too many 90+ days this summer already - such a worry. I don't look forward to yet another series of days that are dangerous for our feathered friends - how is a person supposed to get any work done, right?! Thanks very much for your well wishes for BJ

sammi, thanks also for your kind words and concern. You're right - I give them watermelon - they don't usually do cartwheels over it but sometimes it's a hit because I come home to just the rind! On hot days I put wedges in the freezer for a little while and then put them out for them. They love cantelope, grapes, raspberries, apple, blackberries, blueberries, etc.!! Periodically today I brought some cold wet fruit to BJ to try to keep him hydrated since he is a bugaboo about drinking water. He was very happy with organic raspberries. Annie was in the mood for banana of all things, and blackberries. Later they had organic strawberries. (can you say "the good life"?!). Of course, I was eating chocolate while serving them these things. It was too hot out during the bulk of the day for any heavy food - they just needed hydration.

SC/Brenda, glad Obelisk is adjusting. What a cute sight it must be, with her on the dutch door!! (would make for a great photo!) Glad you're doing okay too.

Thanks very much for checking in to see how BJ is doing. I really appreciate it.

Things may be looking up! I lifted BJ from his roost (a shelf they like to sleep on) to the ground this morning before he could attempt to jump down and while he stayed quite still most of the day, when he did walk a bit it was with less of a limp so I'm feeling a bit hopeful that he "just" injured it and that time will heal. Annie respectfully stayed near him for the most part and didn't fuss so much about getting out to do laps around the yard. She knows he is hurt. It's really beautiful to watch her give back a bit, since he gives so selflessly to her.. She was even doing a kind of preening thing to him this evening when I lifted him to their roosting shelf, the one thing Betty used to selflessly do and that I could tell he loved.

I recalled something that maybe just maybe could speak to BJ's problem.. I have a blueberry bush with some ripe berries. A few days ago I noticed BJ and Annie jumping up and down like jumping beans and craning their necks to try to reach the berries. It should have been videotaped!!!!!(I don't have one of those gadgets). Anyway, maybe BJ might have hurt himself in the process. Maybe not either but the jumping up and down thing was not his usual exercise routine...
The other thing of note lately is the tendency for his comb tips to get some purple tones late in the day

This could be his bigger problem.

Tomorrow if there isn't decline I think it's off the aspirin water and back to Avia Charge so he can get a nutritional boost. Thanks again to each of you for being there - I feel fortunate. JJ

Oh, Judy, mine do the blueberry jump, too. I have one of my PoufyHead sisters, Kate, limping right now. I can't find anything wrong with her leg or foot, so she must have sprained it. I bet that's what's wrong with poor BJ.

sammi, thank you! Cyn, hope Kate feels better soon. Hah - the "blueberry jump"- well said! I noticed they didn't even try that yesterday, despite many ripe blues on the bush.

BJ is sullen, wings droopy, so he's still hurting, poor boy. Went back to the aspirin water last night and this morning. We are about to enter some days of really dangerously hot/humid weather again - could do without that. Beej was wings droopy before I noticed the limp but maybe he injured himself before the limp really set in.

JJ
