i've got only my second batch in but no fancy turner (just me n the kids doing that), so now I'm worried that I need to support them better at hatch time. My first batch we just left the eggs lying on the mesh. All 5 that pipped it was on the top of the shell (since we only had 12 eggs we watched them all intently - when i checked those that didn't hatch the rest weren't fertile) so I'm curious why they'd drown. Surely they pip through the air sac and then out to the wide world and nature took care of things and they knew where to make their break so they didn't get a beakful of wet. (is there really enough liquid left when they hatch to drown anyway?) We have 31 eggs this time, hopefully higher fertility rate and I'm thinking I can start saving egg boxes to hatch them in.
