My chickens have been laying eggs on my deck and i want them in their coop. How do i get them to lay in their coop???

Please don't share stories only post if you have an answer.

Put a nest box on your deck, and thank your chickens for the home delivery!

Honestly.... you need to make your deck seem uninviting to lay. Is there something soft they are laying eggs on?, remove it. You also might try locking them in the coop during the day for a few days so they have to lay there. After doing it a few times I bet they will start to go there to lay on their own. The golf balls or wooden eggs are a good idea too.

The golf ball really works. I just got my hens not long ago. They were laying eggs in their run for the first few days. Then, we had a snow storm, and stopped for a few days. After that, with the golf balls, I received two eggs in the boxes! I was excited!

I posted the same question two weeks ago. I was told to lock them in the coop for a few days. I did it and it worked. Maybe it would work for you as well. Make the coop very inviting. Clean all bedding, straw, shavings, poop, ect..,out of the coop and replace with new clean stuff. Put a couple eggs in the new bedding in your nesting box. Give plenty of fresh water and feed, lock them up for a few days and see what happens. I think it will work.

Nevermind, I just reread your original post.

FYI, there is no definite answer when it comes to living creatures and their habits. So I won't bore or annoy you with 18+ years of getting hens to use nest boxes.
