I went through a somewhat similiar situation. When we first moved to Colorado from CA my daughter, who was like 8 at the time, got one of those bulls eye rashes.

So I took her to the pediatrician and said I think she might have lyme disease.

He actually laughed at me, wanted to know where I got a funny idea like that?

I was like - uh you know all those commericals they run on TV about the BULLS-EYE rash?

He said - we don't have lyme disease in Colorado, you must not be from here.

Now I don't know if that is true or not - but he irritated the hell out of me.

She never did get lyme disease....so apparently was was right about one thing.

Colorado is one of the states without Lyme disease carriers but she could have been exposed somewhere else. California is one place, low risk but still possible.

Chester county, PA (where we live) on the other hand is the epicenter. I know 5 people personally here who have had it - some more than once. Bleh.

And my daughter didn't just have the bullseye. She had tick exposure, low grade fever, lethargy, muscle pain so bad she couldn't walk, headaches, and eventually a positive blood test (though that took nearly a week to get)... No fun! She's been on the antibiotic for 2 weeks now and is doing MUCH better.

I never used to pay a lot of attention to ticks. That was before last summer when I was bitten by a deertick and developed alomst-fatal Lyme Meningitis (not Lyme Disease). It has taken me the better part of a year to get over it.

My advice is to go to urgent care. Keep an eye on the bite area, although almost a full third of deertick bites that turn into Lymes Disease DO NOT show a bullseye.

I don't mean to scare you, but it's a real health concern. Don't know for sure whether you were bitten by a regular tick or a deertick.

ewww y'all have me itching over here as I read this! I had a tick on me a few months ago, I had no idea how to look for lymes. I'm learning so much!

When I was in college I went on exchange for a year to France. My host family had a dalmation who always got ticks while running around the countryside where they lived. The house had tile floors throughout & you'd be walking along then hear "pop". Look down & sure enough: a smooshed tick in a puddle of the dog's blood.

it WAS extremely large so i don't think it was a deer tick, i've done some research and deer ticks even engorged are extremely hard to see so i think this was a lone star tick or a dog tick.

We have lots of ticks around here. I get about 2 a week working out in the garden. I have been kinda concerned the last few days cause I haven't been feeling so great. Kind of stiff and sore but no fever. Now I am all paranoid. Should I be rushing to the Dr's???
