Don't throw the eggs away...

How long should we wait to take out the chicks that do hatch out? Do not want to risk vacuum sealing the unhatched ones.
I'm hatching as we speak. One hatched yesterday afternoon and several more last night. I leave them all in there. I may check tonight. They can stay in there 72 hours without food/water as they live off their yolk they just finished absorbing prior to breaking out.

and this is the reason I love this forum...ask a question and get instant replies. Other forums have members screaming at you to do a search..but I'm too excited being a newly chicken parent to do a search. Thanks folks for all the help!

I would really, really worry about those if the temp was more than a degree off of 99.5 is when mortality and disabilities (disjointed joints, splay legs, cross beak, curled toes, and other things) start increasing.
What about being on the high side say 100.5 max. I've read some stories that some Marans hatchers run a little higher temp and are getting good hatch rates. I tried this temp in my spring dry hatch but hatch ended not very good at 9/22.

I heard that too, but bantam types maybe are more sticklers to the 99.5 than those. There could be others out there that want a higher temp, like some breeds of ducks.

Facebook poultry groups are like that. Ask a question and get out a piece of paper to put hash marks by all of the answers and watch them all call each other idiots, and 10 others will act like the God-anointed chief chicken guru and all must listen to them. :gig

Exactly! I'll do searches on several topics, but it's nice to get an immediate response when you're frantically needing answers to ensure you're chicks get a better chance of making it through this process. Thanks again for sharing your expertise!

So far, only 2 have hatched from this batch and made it through the night. Both seem so lethargic this morning, but I'll let everything go through it's course...
