And good shooting makes safe livestock. Wild or domestic, predatory animals that run game or livestock WILL die of an overdose of high velocity lead. I don't care one bit about the "motivation" of the canine, any more than I would care about the motivation of a person caught in the act of killing a member of my family. The threat WILL be eliminated, no warning, no second chance, end of story.

Could have called our holiday a Merry Dog Day Christmas. It was not a relaxed nice time. Lost a good layer Friday so we started wing clipping as when frightened they tend to jump the fence. Christmas Eve we counted 4 loose dogs. Christmas Day there were 11 dogs arunning. It was a day of constant patroling, I don't know why people think it is a treat to let their animals loose for a holiday. If I was a better shot there would be a few less dogs today. Time to invest in a shotgun.

I'm going to give the coyotes their credit that they deserve. Coyotes have their purpose. Nobody lets their dogs run loose too many times in my area.

It depends upon who the neighbor is. If it is someone who is serious about keeping their dog confined and they had an accidental escape, I will catch the dog and return it, or crate it up to keep it safe. If it is someone who allows their dog to roam, or won't fix their fences, then the poor unfortunate dog is taking his chances.

There are 2 track greyhounds up the road who are never out. I'd catch those of I ever saw them, because their owners care. On the other hand, the local coyotes have dined on 2 Newfoundlands, 2 Boston Terriers, and a Blue Heeler in the past year. I can't protect everybody's dog, so warn them once and f they don't care enough to keep their dog home, then that's the end of it. Not the poor dog's fault that he has to die because some jerk is irresponsible.

Coyotes are not killing and eating Newfoundlands unless the dogs are pups. Either your coyotes are not coyotes or something else, human most likely is killing the dogs and coyotes are cleaning up. I have lived around coyotes way too long not to question such.
