I wish I knew more stuff about DYI gyms. I really don't. I can talk your ear off about using olympic equipment and machinery, but I have always had the privilege of access to professional equipment. I started my fitness journey at a YMCA, and though I have maintained memberships in the past other places, I feel the Y is a really great place to be for a beginner. They usually have trainers on staff that you can do consultations with, and meet with someone a few times to go over your fitness goals and make a realistic plan. I'll do my best to try and answer questions to the best of my ability. But I am not a personal trainer... I just like to look good naked.

Remember that the fitness you do is better than the fitness you don't. If running is the absolute pits and you hate it, find something you like more. GFD I hate to run. I do it when I gotta, and I almost always put in 2 miles before I lift to warm up my body and muscles, but I vastly prefer the stair mill. Lifting can be fun when you start seeing progress, and when you can start doing things like one trip from the car to the house with all the groceries in your arms instead of making a bunch of trips. There's grace in strength. Simple things like getting up from sitting on the floor become effortless motions. But there's no such thing as a free lunch, and for me, DOMS is utterly brutal. I exist in a constant, everlasting state of pain. Hot tubs helped the most for me, but I don't have those here, so all I can do for myself is foam roll my muscles after a workout and water, water, water, water, water.

Diet is also 80% of it. If you're not fueling your body adequately to rebuild your damaged muscle fibers, they'll just stay damaged, you'll feel hurt, you'll hate everything and stop doing it. And if you're lifting to lose weight... well.... There's a saying, "you can't outrun your fork". You can absolutely get buff and strong as hell and then be a chonk on top. Define what your goals are and make a roadmap to success.

Last but not least, especially when it comes to diet, if you want it to stick it has to be a "lifestyle change". Tell yourself it's forever. This is your life now. Forever. It makes everything easier.
For me the forever thing is usually worse cause then I feel like I’m missing out/start freaking out over the NEVER part and go binge the shizzle when I break  for me I feel like it’s better to allow myself one tiny piece rather than saying I can NEVER ever have something EVER again cause then I start freaking TF out haha but then again I can’t do tiny so maybe I should start doing forever with certain things. Idk.

Magnesium. You can drink it, and spray it on your muscles. Helps me a lot with DOMS.

I like to think of it as adding healthy choices rather than giving up unhealthy ones. Focus on what you're adding, not subtracting.

Yeah that makes sense but still. I feel like some though like fast food and soda and stuff though I could and should give up and I’ll probably be okay with it but if someone said I could never ever have ice cream again I would freak lol
