I actually didn't know what the temperature was here. One very different thing about life here is my phone. All of my apps have been reconsidered, re-prioritized, re-thunk, and many, including my weather app, re-moved.

In Canada weather is an obsession, it's constantly monitored and discussed. Here, not so much.

This got me curious, so I dug thru my phone and opened the weather. In the 5 day forecast, highs vary from 31° to 33° (86°- 91°) and lows are between 21° and 23° (70°-73°). Truth is, with the weather being so consistent, it's just not a thing.
We've been here 3 weeks now, and already I feel like I'm acclimating some. Mid day is hot if you're out in the sun, no question. We were out from around 9 am to 3 pm yesterday doing errands, and with the breeze, the shade, and the temporary shelter of air conditioned stores, I was fine until the guagua (hilarious public transportation) dropped us off at the gate to our complex. That's where the groceries got heavy, I had two bags, probably 20 - 25lbs each and just over a half mile walk to our apartment. By the time we got home I was starting to sweat. A quick shower, 20 seconds in front of the fan, and things are good!
Rummaging around in my phone earlier, I also discovered a step counter. Apparently, yesterday I walked 15,223 steps or 9 kms (5.6 mi), and burned 657 calories. Is any of this accurate?

Since this is already long winded for me, I might as well add that our barrels arrived on Wednesday! Only one had external damage, but so far we haven't found anything broken.

Surprisingly, it was kind of an emotional thing, mostly for my wife (not surprising). Having the stuff arrive further cemented the reality of our situation and brought many memories of home at the same time. On the plus side, we now have good quality knives and cookware, a pretty comprehensive bag of basic tools, and various other creature comforts! We haven't thoroughly unpacked, but I'm already realizing that I've forgotten stuff!

We recently learned that the DR doesn't have a government run mail system.

What they do have (for most challenges) is a work around. Through one of many freight forwarders, we set up a Po box type address in Miami that we can use for any online purchases that originate in, or can be shipped to the US. We've heard that delivery is quick (a few extra days) and pricing is reasonable as long as the value is under $200 usd to avoid DR's duty and tax. Minutes after the account was set up, my wife was busy on lands end!

I think that's it for now, we're off to Cabarete today to do some banking and explore!
