i've got a guillotine style door from the coop to the yard, with a cable on a pully to open and close it without going into the yard. But with it getting dark earlier, i thought it would be great to have an automatic door opener on it, that way it can be opened at a certain time and closed at a certain time regardless if i'm home or not. Does anyone have anything like this? or have any ideas?

LOL, I also have a guillotine style door. I would love an automatic door opener. But, cant afford it. So instead we have an eye hook above the door on the inside. There is another eye hook on the door. The door opener string is attached to the door, comes up thru the wall eye, over to and thru the outside wall. There is an some excess of string when the door is closed, to open it you pull the string down to a screw further down the wall, no going in the run or into the coop. We havent had the opportunity to use it yet as the door has been opened all summer but we will this winter.

I believe the hubby has left lots of room in the slots he built that they slide in. Besides, the door is under a tarp so it doesnt have contact with water, just moisture in the air.

thanks PI! that's exactly the kind of thing i'm looking for! seems a tad pricey though. anyone know any other vendors?

as to the wooden door, it's plywood which is fairly dimensionally stable, the channels are also plywood, there's a bit of room in there and i've waxed it up good. the roof overhangs a little on that side as well. hasn't been an issue with sticking at all.

BAck yard chicken mag has a couple sales items
