Hello everyone. I am in the middle of building the Ladies their new home. I have a question. How big is everyones door/opening for the chickens to enter at the top of the ramp??

I stumbled across your post while using the search function to answer that very question myself. From all the threads I have come across, it seems 12x18 or 12x12 are pretty popular. I guess at 12x12, the bigger breeds and roosters have to duck their heads to get in, but they dont mind doing it. Some people go 18x18 so birds can pass each other on their way in or out of the coop without creating traffic jams. I only have 3 pullets in a 4'x4' coop, so I am not worried about traffic jams. I am going with 12"x12", maybe 12"x 16 just to be a rebel! The smallest I have seen anyone mention is 9x12, and the largest is 3'x4'!! I would maybe figure out the mature height of your birds and go an inch or two over that? Again, everyone says their chickens dont mind ducking! Good luck!

Hey, MoonShadows, I just started a thread about the AdorStore door. Does yours close early in the rain? I just installed mine and this first night it closed all but one of my chickens out. Are you generally pleased with it?

I am very pleased with my Ador1 automatic door.

Generally, it will open a bit later and close a bit earlier on overcast or rainy days, but not by much. You can change the sensitivity setting. My girls have yet to be closed out. I think they are like me...early to bed...well, not tonight for me!

After I started this thread I found the one about the door specifically. Should have done that first, huh? Sorry, I was a little backwards.

I may try to the later program.

Thanks! My door opened fine this morning. I hope I'll love it as much as everyone else does.

In my situation I have about 6 inches of bedding in the coop and for some reason there is always 10 to 12 inches of bedding in front of the pop door (just the dynamics of the the chickens or the coop I am now sure which).

In a perfect world I thought I had left enough space for the bedding.

Seem to be always cleaning the track.

Not that big of a deal I guess.
