Dorkings?

Yay! I emailed her and she does have and will have eggs and will sell as few as 8! I'm eggcited! Now where is this dang bator I ordered???? Sigh.

About time to become cranky. I hate the mail.

Steve's got Dark Cornish eggs for me, she has Dorking eggs for me. And here I am batorless.
Watch, it'll come in three pieces, or eight.

I ordered a hygrometer/thermometer - digital, then picked up an analogue one to check accuracy and reassure me.

I went with silver-grey, rose combed. I like the look of them and the different comb.

Patience is not my strong suit.

Tell her the Crazy Chicken Lady from Sterling says Hi.

LOL! She has beautiful birds. My Duke has the single comb, as do all the hens now, but I'm hoping for some rose combs next year.

Hi- Walks With Dog. What are the eggs costing you and how is shipping? I don't have an incubator as of yet either and am trying to talk myself out of it.

However, I would like to know. It will likely ruin my willpower but I am going to take that risk.

I didn't realize she had Silver Dorkings with different combs.

Thanks!

She ships as few as eight eggs, prices are on her website and not at all insane. I may back track having talked to others about a side topic but an important one.

I'm looking to improve a heritage flock partridge rocks. Dorkings are a part of that color's development. I may go with the red or black red birds so that I can use some of them with the PR flock. It makes the most sense to combine as many benefits as possible with my additions.

Otherwise I'm going to need more coops rather sooner than I intended.

BTW, Jeanne in DeBorgia has some beautiful and rare white Dorkings. I aspire to have some of her gorgeous, gentle birds some day. I am hoping sooner rather than later. I would love to see photos when you successfully hatch. Silver Dorkings can be sexed at hatch, true?

Jeane's a neat lady. Right now between vet bills and finding any SQ PR's and talking to people about bringing in good cochins , I'm a busy kid. Hatching dorkings comes sometime this fall but got bumped to get in cochins first. I keep blackdiamonds email addy at the top of my email bucket.

Tomorrow I'm doing a lumber scrounge to finish the second bird yard and to get a second coop underway. I may put up a temporary hay bale coop for the meaties over the winter. I've been interested in doing one. Good excuse. I don't want to do any over-crowding.

WWD, Sandhill Preservation has Dorkings, Silver Grey, Red, and I think they have Colored, too. I'm thinking of getting some from them this spring, maybe. They only sell chicks, not eggs. http://www.sandhillpreservation.com/pages/poultry_catalog.html

I
also need some good quality Cornish, I prefer dark Cornish but would be open to anything other than white. Did you say you found some?

Sandhill does do dorkings? Kewl I wanted a few chicks from them next year any way. I'll split my order delawares, dorkings and partridge rocks

Though I think I will get Jeane's eggs to keep up my hatching practice. Multiple lines will also help.

I want to get good at hatching. Ideal will sell me colored ranger eggs - yay. Practice on meat birds is the best bet going.

Thanks for the reply. C

Sandhill does Dorkings, and various colors. I think he might have a MAXimum of 5 birds... it's been a while since I looked at the website because his birds are expensive and sold out quick. I'd be interested in hearing feedback on SHs Dorkings, too, on the quality. I have been told that there are issues with one of the other breeds not being standard, or having DQ color variations, but haven't heard anything on the Dorkings.

I had a "waiting list' order with Ideal that got bumped til next Spring, but I think I'm going to stick with breeders... I'm not happy with the quality of hatchery chicks. I would love to get more eggs from Jeanne, but after only getting one chick out of 3 batches of eggs (PO destroyed them every time!) I'm afraid to try again.

I'd be afraid of shipping eggs with the quality of your postal service too the odds on survival all the way to Alaska has to be rough, Tori. Figure I'll check out Sandhill and just see. If Jeane were closer I'd drive and get chicks.

Since I want to see what they have in Delaware and Partridge Rocks it won't hurt to look at what Sandhill has.

I know I don't much care for production hatchery partridge rocks. But the show folks have such low productivity/fertility/availability. I'm just going to have to pursue my own.

It's a long term project regardless. Now if these other enablers will stop tempting me with other projects... yeah sure.

The coop looks good, good luck with the winter.
