do's and don't of incubating and hatching?

These are all excellent posts with a lot of very good information.

I would create a hatching calendar (here is my October calendar below). I Also when adjusting the temperature and humidity opening and closing the vents will help.

Here is a Calendar from another BYC member.

I have had the power go out a couple of times while I was incubating. Once the incubator went to 78 degrees before I noticed it (it was in the middle of the night). I did have a DC power supply and inverter. I plugged the incubator into the inverter which was plugged into the power supply. My temperature recovered and stayed until my power came back on. I had been out for several hours. I still had a good hatch. Just a suggestion for anyone who lives in an area where they may have power outages once in awhile.

Many people recommend 60-65% humidity for the first 18 days. I think this is too high. I keep my humidity around 35% for the first 18 days and increase it to around 85-90% for the lock-down period. This has worked much better for me.

1 Clean your STUFF 2Crank up the ole Incubator several days before you plan on putting eggs in.Make sure its working properly and You and It are in CONTROL.
3Check thermometer and hydrometer for accuracy ? Calibrate/check calibration.
4Check calibration on new Temp/Hydro .JUST BECAUSE THERE NEW DON'T MEAN THERE CORRECT !!!!!!!
5 CONTROL if you can't control your Variables without Eggs/ you can't control it WITH EGGS!!!!!!!!!!!!
